The new owners of this Arts & Crafts manor house, previously a wedding venue, wanted to return it to a family home as well as creating a welcoming space for hosting friends. CHAPTER brought the brief to life with a major reconfiguration of the ground floor.
The formal drawing room was repurposed as the family kitchen, creating better flow throughout the house. The demands of family life meant the creation of a boot room and dedicated utility room at the rear entrance.
Tall south-facing windows and a newly created door to the garden terrace have made the kitchen a dramatic space filled with natural light.
The original panelling was meticulously surveyed and templated so that new bespoke joinery and stone counters would abut perfectly, ensuring old and new work together sympathetically.
The stone fireplace mantel was raised to accommodate the Aga. Elsewhere, modern kitchen equipment is cleverly concealed to retain a classic identity.
An Officine Gullo patinated brass sink, gold leafed eglomise mirror and burnished ironmongery, all add to the warm ambience and glamour of the space.
A pop of Scalamandre’s iconic wallpaper provides interest in an otherwise serene boot room, behind a new leaded glass door made to mirror an existing one.
The utility room presented a unique challenge with its curved external wall. Treating it in painted tongue and groove panelling allowed for a perfectly curved Blue Lias stone countertop. An Aresbascato marble sink with recessed Shaker door beneath, elevates the room from the purely practical.
