VA Puget Sound Health Care System

Doctor Klem has been a family physician for over twenty years in rural, suburban, and urban environments. As a family physician he truly enjoys partnering with patients in caring for the whole person, as well as the whole family. From newborns to those nearing the end of life, and all those in between, he enjoys not only helping those when they are ill, but thoroughly enjoys an emphasis on illness prevention. He loves the variety that family medicine provides, as well as the opportunity to get to know and care for patients over the long term. The relationships that develop are special, and having the time to spend on prevention and education is especially rewarding.

  1. Had bad kidney stones. Main office did not help and got sent to American Lake. They would not help. Finally had to drive south to Olympia to an ER for help. Messed up.

  2. Fast service. Had an appointment that was followed up with a blood test. there was minimal wait. Go early for covid-19 pre screen after first going on base

  3. Covered in comunist..wouldn’t let me in without a mask..have cop can’t wear a mask but guess they have more authority than ada..who says they can’t make u wear one if you can’t because of medical conditions..

  4. Dentists are great. PTSD CLINIC IS AWESOME ESPECIALLY MY COUNSELOR. I WAS CONCERNED WHEN I FIRST WENT TO HER. SHE IS YOUNG BUT REALLY HAS HELPED ME WITH MY PTSD. I WILL ALWAYS BE GRATEFUL.

  5. Every single time I have been here the people are friendly and accommodating. They have a huge patient load, and that makes the wait times long sometimes, but that is out of their control. Great people.

  6. They do their best. So i went to pharmacy about a month ago. This veteran is straight up screaming at this pharmacy clerk. Btw, his prescription was for cialis. He made it very clear as he yelled like the sh!tbag he was, over his penis pills. Thank you WA VA you’ve been nothing, but good to me.

  7. Be aware there is a detour on the route to the VA. VA currently doescovid screening as well. Be sure to give yourself at least 30 minutes extra between the detour and screening

  8. The Women’s Clinic is superb! Great, caring medical providers, excellent COVID-19 safety precautions, great customer service and great VA facility all around 🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸 Thank you so much! …

  9. Allow extra time for COVID 19 screening, especially first thing in the morning. It took 45 minutes today before I could park. Also, you must wear a mask, and do not bring more than one caregiver or family member.

  10. Typical government structure in times of supposed need . Over protective environment to protect us against something that doesn’t exist . Required too wear masks that wo t stop bacteria let alone a virus . No appts available for at least …

  11. If you need more than a bandaid or routine care you will have to ask for community care. Women veterans are given 2 choices either take it or leave it just like the 80’s. Hard to get into to see a doctor.

  12. Hopefully the pendemic will end at American Lake or perhaps we’re going to turn it into a museum for all the heroes that it served since 1944 or 43 the beautiful campus has everything a general would want but with medical help there’s …

  13. VA needs to have more concered respect for there veterans There bathrooms are not for one in wheel chairs No way for them to get in or out I could see
Long waits for appointments or you don’t get in because doctors are leaving and they don’t care

  14. I walked right in and was directed to where I needed to be. I inquired about procuring an ID and was made an appointment on the spot. Everyone was very kind and welcoming.

  15. Referred to outside clinic for colonoscopy…they sent prescription over…va didn’t get it…faxed again, said pick up it is ready. I pick up, open at home and it is not what the prescription was for…great now I have to spend over $100 to fill it commercially. Such a pain

  16. They are screening for COVID-19 so get there early for appointments. The staff are very helpful and courteous and will assist you with all aspects of your appointment. Wait times vary but mornings are best.

  17. Be careful if you are a GWOT veteran with long hair and bushy beard. The cops like to shake you down there. It has happened to me three times and on the 3rd time they stole my Garmin 550 GPS out of my glove box wile they were looking for …

  18. This place has come such a long way. Back in 2005 things were so bad I quit going. Thank you to all involved in turning this place around. I truly feel as if the staff cares about me and all the other veterans that depend on them.

  19. The staff are very caring, attentive, professional, and prompt to take care of my needs every time I’ve had to go for tests, medications, & especially the doctors. I’m so blessed to have this facility to care for me!

  20. Wonderful experience! Terri from the mental health department gave me all the information needed to start my medication process, along with some of the other benefits I am entitled to. Thanks Terri!

  21. It’s the most challenging… the Covid-19 screening is super but the appointment system sucks. Seems no one to care. Today 26th Jun 2020 at approx 1130 hrs, I was attempting to contact Community Care Svs, numerous times from the previous …

  22. Easy entrance with covid screening, park g is way easier now that non-patients are discouraged on campus. Shockingly efficient overall, loved my visit.

  23. The intake lady told me to go to the urgent care clinic literally yesterday. Its closed has been for awhile. She also told me it will be weeks just to get a primary doctor. So I have no doctor still and no way to check out my back that was …

  24. I had a video appt with an accused care Dr. Because my Dr left the VA. Wish she would move to primary care Dr. M gray was great and I felt like she was really looking at me.

  25. I don’t like my primary team, quality of service is greatly reduced from what I have experienced in the past. Mental Health care is substandard, difficult to get appointments and then they waste your time, they cancel and don’t bother to let you know. I am planning on changing providers to a new CBOC opening this June in Puyallup.

  26. BLDG #81 is where new Veterans will enroll themselves (and your dependents information); each department in this building have different hours but mainly open around 0730 or 0800; many of the staff workers are friendly and knowledgeable.

  27. Took my husband to American Lake Va for a medical procedure. They required masks and asked us all kinds of questions before letting us go in. Dr. And nurses very professional. They really care about their patients.

  28. Just love test this morning blood and urine went quickly and smoothly. Even though they only had one tech to work the front window and draw the blood but I got there early it was 07..

  29. The VA puget sound system failed me. Others may disagree but I’ve had an awful experience from their services and especially the phone system. They referred me out to an eye exam and these people were rude, annoyed at my presence and didn’t …

  30. Always a pleasure when I’m there. As of my visit, I was directed to a Covid screening. I assume no temperature check was done as I haven’t been in contracted or shown any symptoms of Covid or cold/flu. …

  31. If I had to be in a hospital this hospital was a very good experience for me I don’t like being in hospitals but if you got to be there having a person or a bunch of people being good to you it’s really important it was in the covid unit 18 …

  32. Went in for a CT today. I was in and out in 10 minutes. The Tec was very polite and had a great attitude! COVID-19 screening went smoothly. Stopped by the pharmacy to refill a prescription also went quickly!

  33. Had an appointment at the optical clinic. Check in was easy, the ladies were right on top of their job. Had a seat and waited to get called back. Got the check up finished …

  34. Where can I start. I have been trying to get an eye exam for over two months now. I was given a referral to see Community Care and it has not been resolved. I called Patient Advocate and was not given a call back until I reached out to the …

  35. Well, I went to see the urgent care clinic, only to find out that they no longer had said clinic. The woman who helped me thought I might get a little mad about that (no sense getting upset over something I can’t control, eh?). She DID get …

  36. The personal is very helpful. If you ask a person and they didn’t know the answer they we get a person who will be able to answer your questions or show you were you are suppose to go. Plus I seen the VA person escorted them to the place. …

  37. I’ve always gone there for over 20+ years, they’re the BEST in town as far as I’m concerned. I’m a veteran so yeah I love the staff and my friends that I only see at the VA hospital.

  38. On Monday of this week I was called by the VA,I was told I had another primary care doctor. So they changed my doctor with out letting me know nothing.I think that the VA could have notified me properly by mail. That would have given me time …

  39. Worst experience in VA I have ever had. I lived in Spokane for years. The VA in Spokane really do care for there vets. They anwer there phones and they get you in with in a reasonable time. Seattle VA treats you like cattle! And with the …

  40. We were picking up prescription close to 5pm. There was a lot of parking space available. The pharmacy was actually pretty empty as well, we waited about five minutes before getting meds.

  41. Not much wait time. VA very helpful. Care is very good. What I. Don’t like is waiting on the phone , sometimes for an Hour to speak to someone. This a problem for many Veterans. I recently had a Stroke, in the last 2 days have spent approx. …

  42. So far, the VA has helped me think better due to counseling. They help keep my system under control with the proper meds and prosthetics. They helped me not pass out by installing a pacemaker. …

  43. If you Don’t have an Appointment that’s Scheduled 3 months out, till you can See your Doctor. They won’t even Look at you as a genuine Human Being in Pain, Suffering they Will Not give you Any Service & Tell you to go to the Hospital/911. …

  44. Absolutely no communication. Five primary care providers in five months. I happened to be one of the puppies that was picked by providers, and they leave for brighter pastures. Except for the one they seem to have removed from contact with patients, promote and move to Olympia, or Lacy in a office. AATW!

  45. Feel lucky to be alive. Grateful for the excellent care i receive at VA Puget Sound. Would’ve succumbed to wounds long ago if not for the care by everyone here.

  46. I mean if you reach out telling them your in a bad place an need care, plan a two month wait. On top of that plan to speak with 10-15 people in an attempt to get an appointment. Your far better off seeking private consultations at online clinics. As this place will make you pay mentally for just trying to get help.
