Western Michigan University Reviews ( 146 )

  1. Western Michigan University is the least helpful place when it comes to admissions and financial aid. The counselors do not know how to help you with your problems instead they redirect you to leave a voice mail for someone and then never …

  2. Make sure you stay on top of your education because at Western you are just a paycheck. They really don’t care about the students as long as they get your tuition money.

  3. as of today I literally regret ever signing my son up for this school….im stuck with a $17,000 bill and he can’t even do a 2nd semester there, all over a wage verification…don’t do it…..

  4. Needed assistance for an issue I was having with accessing my transcripts, called the registrars office on 5/23/19 and was greeted by the MOST DISRESPECTFUL service by a representative I have ever received at western. Made me embarrassed to be a bronco, and my issue was not offered any assistance.

  5. Fun Fact: If 10,000 students buy a parking pass (about half the student population currently), then parking services can build a 8.5 Million dollar parking garage every 3 years

  6. The hours listing that comes up here on Google with WMU or Waldo Library is just wrong — be sure to check the specific office or buildings website for up to date hours. They vary greatly due to semester breaks or services offered.

  7. So far been really quite bad, bad counselors who don’t seem to care, the honors college is a sham, literally better food in prison (as one of my relatives who came to visit stared), and they don’t seem to give a damn about you after you …

  8. Great school with great professors. Have loved every minute of my college career here. Except paying for a $300 parking pass and never being able to find a spot.

  9. Very strange not having students on campus do to the corvid 19 effect. By this time it would be keep your eyes peeled because they would be everywhere on their smart phones.

  10. Unique place for unique people. Wish the foreign faculty coming here for research were more personable. Hoped to see more of a natural mesh of diversity, but this is a pwi. College is what you make it, go educate yourself!

  11. Do not get the meal plan if you are vegetarian, vegan, and/or need to know what you’re eating for religious purposes. While WMU had more vegetarians and vegan options a couple years ago when I started attending in 2012, the selection has …

  12. Watching Western Michigan University sports… outdoors and watching baseball and Fast pitch softball games…lots of people were there too…no concession stand for the fans… plenty of good sunshine and friendly fans😊🌄 …

  13. Place is a joke, trash everywhere outside in the parking lots and grass,Parking is a joke too never enough parking spots and they always ticket you even if you have a parking pass for that lot. Just pulling more and more money outa ya

  14. Civil Engineer grad in 2012 and I loved my experience here. Many of the complaints you will have at any university (parties, profs concerned with research, ect). I highly recommend WMU! Go Broncos!

  15. A truly undervalued school! There are some truly great programs here, and the campus is wonderful! It’s constantly undergoing improvement, and the students are generally nice and welcoming.

  16. I got my undergrad at Western before eventually getting my MBA at Michigan in 2013. While I didn’t have the biggest expectations for Western, I was continually let down by both the counseling staff and Teaching staff. 85% of the students …

  17. Great value for undergrad work. Good mix of modern campus, traditional values, great study abroad program and classes taught by professors vs grad assistants. Go Broncos!

  18. I have been having some serious problems with their unorganized financial aid office. My scholarship check was awarded to the wrong person, yet they will not allow me to register for classes even though a mistake was made by a person in their office.

  19. I absolutely loved my time at WMU. They have a great BBA program and there is so much unity in between students. The faculty and staff really care about the students and are not just there for a paycheck

  20. Architecturally impressive. Floyd’s modern “IT & Engineering” look is prominent, yet you become very impressed while driving around the entire structure, discovering its enormous size! My son has been very satisfied with all the interior features as well.

  21. As an international student, I had a great experience. The university’s RSOs, campus, faculty, staff, residence halls and wireless network are top of the line. Definitely, a great value compare to other public universities in the US

  22. Your experience at western is what you make it. A lot of reviews complain about the teachers just looking at you for a paycheck but this has never once been my experience. I certainly have had my share of teachers I disliked, but not one …

  23. $300/year to park, ever-rising tuition, flat rate tuition used to cover 16 credits and now only covers 15 for more per credit hour, university leadership more concerned with new buildings and colleges (not to mention competing with U of M), too many negatives to outline in a Google Review

  24. Go here if in Kalamazoo area for your baby and child. Since doctors and nurses work with WMU they are more up to date with the newest research than a clinic or small family doctors office.

  25. If you’d like to be taught through YouTube videos and have liberal ideas shoved down your throat, come here! You’ll be happy to know that some classes make you pay extra to access unfinished notes, and that some books are required and never used. Not to mention the fact that the tuition is ridiculously expensive!

  26. DO NOT go here. I’m a student a western right now and can’t tell you enough about how much I hate it here. They never clear the snow off sidewalks and expect you to go to class with the wind chill at -30 degrees. I’m transferring this fall …

  27. Most people who gave a negative review were probably just dorks who never made any friends at western. With any big university there is going to be plenty of negatives. I will admit the parking is a joke on campus but tbh unless you are …

  28. Western Michigan University has a lot of lovely amenities, and it is in a wonderful city. Kalamazoo, MI, is not too large, nor is it too small, making it a great transition for someone from a large city or a small town into the college …

  29. This college is money pit riding on their old name. Parking is outrageous, buildings are falling apart, classes are crap, and they say they have the best, don’t believe it. Its a lie and every college says their the best. Talk to a senior …

  30. My daughters first year was a success. From the classes, class sizes, teachers, activities, bronco pride, school athletics, productions and great city and surrounding sites, you just can’t beat it. There is literally something for everyone and as far as I can tell, everyone feels welcome.

  31. I’m a 5th year senior this year at wmu and wish I’d chosen a different school to transfer to after my 2 years at kvcc. I mainly chose western because living at home was the cheapest thing to do at the time, but I never expected it to be …

  32. The staff needs help…. called to retrieve some information for the semester I went there in 2010 and they were just as unhelpful as when I attended Western. Honestly, I find it amazing that I’ve read some reviews with the same issues I’ve …

  33. Seriously one of the best experiences in my life was to be part of WMU for 3 years. The diversity of people on campus is enourmous. There are many great teachers in all different fields of study. Specially in autum the campus is beautiful. …

  34. I visited Western Michigan twice as a high school senior and my visit was good. I just did not like that the campus was older but to be fair they were starting to renovate it while I was visiting for my second visit. The dorms were nice. …

  35. I was an online student there and my experience has been unpleasant. The eLearning software is awful and not user friendly but my biggest problem was the lack of communication with the advisors. They don’t help you register for courses …

  36. I really enjoyed going to Western. I thought the campus was lovely and there were always lots of activities going on. The town is also very nice and a lot of fun. …

  37. I’m spending 300$ just for a parking pass yet they can’t make enough parking spots for students. you can go through 5 parking lots without finding a spot but there’s always so many empty spaces for staff. Also, they always have problems …

  38. Very shoddy educational facility. Wish I never would have enrolled. Thank God I’ll go onto law school and not have to really ever mention that I went to Western. My community college classes were more informative and added more value than …

  39. My daughter is in her second year and finds it no different from the local Jr. College she attended while in HS. Classes are challenging and not every prof. is her favorite but then this is no different from any level of schooling. …

  40. I’m a freshman this year at Western and I regret coming her at all. I am staying in the valleys with an unkept suite mate who has stained my towels, trashed our bathroom and nothing has been done. She has also had the cops called on her and …

  41. Great University! I got my BS and Masters Degrees there! Go Broncos!! I had wonderful professors who helped me develop a philosophy of elementary education which encouraged my creativity and served me well for all of my 20 year career as teacher.

  42. It has not stood still in time. It has progressed with time and modernity improving its facilities. upgrading its curriculum, raising its standards and widening the choices for students in terms of their preference for available careers, …

  43. This is the worst school I have ever attended and I have been in college since Fall 2008. My department (polsci) failed EVERYONE who took their comparative politics comprehensive exams while I was there–two for the second time. Housing …

  44. Excellent public university! The teachers are great, the students work hard, and the campus is consolidated so everything is easy to find! Transportation works well and there is also a career center to assist you during your college time. …

  45. Attended this school from 1999-2001. Was basically asked not to come back for dropping too many classes. I graduated from a better school. You are on your own here. They don’t care about you, just your money. You are just a number and a …

  46. Good place to attend for a 4-year degree. I graduated with a Bachelor of Science from the Arts and Sciences College in June 1994. I majored in chemistry and double-minored in physics and mathematics. At that time, the chemistry …

  47. Mine Doogan in geoscience does not go above and beyond to help students. Dont take classes with her. You will regret it and she is hard to understand from turky.

  48. Good university! Just don’t go into debt to get a degree that isn’t worth it! Going 25-100k in debt is worth it many a times. Don’t just go to college to go to college. Have a plan. Other options cost less and you make more or the same.

  49. Woo-hoo! Go Broncos! Western Michigan University is such a great school! The campus is large, but still has a feeling of community to it. The marching band here is also great, and the amenities could not get any better. Western Michigan University, my future college, here I come!

  50. Love this campus! It’s always beautiful and I had great professors while I attended. I also loved the community. I was involved in a group called Cru where I met my wife and all my closest friends. Such a great club for new people and a great school!
