SIU Credit Union was founded in 1938 as Jackson County Teachers’ Credit Union. Today, we serve 24 counties and many employer groups in southern Illinois. As a not-for-profit, member owned, financial cooperative, we believe in serving our membership instead of maximizing profits. At a credit union there are no shareholders or investors – members are the owners. Profits are given back to members in the form of lower fees, better rates, discount programs, and more. We also value giving back to our communities by donating and volunteering for a variety of charities and organizations. After all, we’re in the business of people helping people. SIU Credit Union is our name, but you don’t need to work at Southern Illinois University or be a student to become a member. Horrible experience with this bank. Rude tellers. Came in and didn’t have the proper paperwork and they denied me understandable! However, when I asked what I needed exactly? They gave attitude and rolled their eyes. Ridiculous.
I originally lived in Carbondale and worked at the University. That is how I became a customer at SIU Credit Union. It has been 14 years, and I have lived in 3 states since then, but I would never leave this bank, because they are some of the most caring people I have ever known.
All the staff here are the best. I’ve never had a single problem. They’ve dealt with the Covid precautions very well and ensured that banking needs are still met.

Hold multiple loans through siu. Closing all them out. Dishonest bank. Charge insurance on a loan we had submitted the insurance on. We showed proof of insurance and told us “since it’s all ready been applied we can’t issue it back”. Stacy is a liar, cheater and dishonest. So many other banks worth your money.
