We are happy with MCEC. We have been using their company since 1999. My bills are reasonable.
They always respond quickly when the power goes out. They have replaced the wiring, due to squirrels chewing on the wires outside.
Haven’t even been home in 3 months & absolutely no electricity is being used besides my fridge running… somehow my light bill is over $100 every month. It’s getting higher every month.
How can they have this peak rate charge at the time that is most used by families, there is not a lot of people that can afford that kind of hit.so families eat later, get sick more often and due to the time frames put more stress on …
Grew up with MCEC, always enjoyed the nice employees and good service.
Had the other before in other states. But nobody bets the friendliest service from MCEC.
The peak hour rate will make you broke, they charge $12 per kwh when you need use electricity most. Never move to this area. It’s full of vultures waiting to swallow you up!
I’m getting really aggravated because we are having power outages almost every week. Sometimes they last about 2 to 3 hours. I guess that’s why they are so much cheaper than SCE&G
Those peak hours suck.people that work can’t come home and do nothing from 4 to 7. The elderly have to eat before 4 or after 7 then go to bed on a full stomach which is not good for you. I thought we were a cooperative why did we not get to vote on this peak hour stuff. Please do away with this it sucks.
I’ve just recently moved to the Columbia area with power with MCEC. These guys are awesome. They work with you, very informative, and always willing to work with you. All around happy customer. Keep it up guys.
If I could give zero stars, of course I would. This company is rude, unprofessional and charges random amounts that we have no choice but to pay or get cut-off. In addition, they charge $35 to check their own meters after they mess up! I cannot wait to move out of this area and deal with a real electric company!!!!
These people are horrible and a rip off. Cheating people with this dam on peak demand charge. They are lying and it is a disgrace to treat people like this. Charged me $119.00 for 1 hour 8-9am this month and funny thing is nothing was on …
Worst electrical billing in the world!! Drive trucks and rarely home, yet light bill $190?? Their peek hours is basically all summer when they know your gonna need it most…
Love my MCEC! I would rather have a Co-op any day of the week than SCE&G!!! Any day! I have had both and always paid more for the latter! I grew up with a Co-op (Fairfield Electric) and I never heard my parents complain at all about them. …
MCEC employees are the best. I do b reathing treatments and electricity is always back on as quick as possible! I live off off Tom Draft Rd on 378. Thank you so much for your quick response. Stay safe.
This company takes advantage of the monopoly they have over the local population and charge outrages prices. I reported them to the BBB and the condescending manger said I just didn’t understand the way their fee structure works. I informed …
We are currently on hurricane watch. The hurricane has yet to be close to Columbia and I’m already having outages. I’m sorry but if your going to run a power company you better deal with these things quickly and with them being closed …
Peak hours are outrageously priced and very inconvenient. The customer service is ridiculous as well. I called to make a payment for my mother inlaw and because my name is not on the acccount they wouldnt let me. Who does that! I was trying to give them money; not charge something. Smh…
Mid Carolina Electric Cooperative does not care about hearing from its customers during outages beyond its voice mail and automated systems, which are carefully crafted to keep customers from bothering their office workers. Frequent …
I been with this company for 3 years now they are the worst electricity company they are always going up on the prices and never try to work with on your bill and loves to give late fee even if the bill is do the next day customer service …
I am situate in a small pocket of users near Monetta who are always the last to have power restored and who often have outages when others don’t. I don’t know whether the reason is weak infrastructure, profit (restoring the bigger users …
Excellent service! Anytime there’s an outage they are always very prompt at getting the power back on. Even when our street light in our yard goes out which is very seldom, they are very quick in repairing it. …
My peak hours are always high in the morning. I don’t work so I’m not up between 6 and 8. I no my peak is over at 9am so i make sure I have nothing on but a heater in my room every night so how can I use on just one morning more electricity than any other morning it so sad and they don’t care.
Since I retired 6 yrs. ago, I receive a SS check on the 3rd or 4th Wed. each month. I schedule all my bills to be paid on that date w/online banking. If my electric bill is due the day before my SS check is in the bank (next day), that …
Had a squirrel disrupt service this morning. Team members were professional and courteous. This has been my experience with MCEC since I have been a member! Keep up the good work. Will
Decent service, but make sure you put it in both of your names. My husband registered for the service in our apartment, therefore it was under his name. When I called to cancel, they informed me that he has to call before during the day …
I used to love this utility until they started charging a 25.00 account fee. Really, does it take 25.00 to handle my account? If that wasn’t bad enough, then they went to peak hour charges. Between the account fee and the peak hour charge, …
TOTAL RIP OFF!!!! Winter time is the worst! I was barely home and unplugged everything and was still being charged $12-$14 a day!!!! If your prepaid account is at $0 they’ll disconnect your power and send you into the negatives until you …
Like many other reviewers, I do not like having MCEC at all. They carefully crafted the insane “demand” usage – different times for “summer” and “winter” hours, just so the most used appliances fall into the specified peak hours. At $12 per …
I’ll start by saying my service has been good, outages are fixed quickly. My main concern is their charge for peak times at $12 per KW, outrageous right? I feel they are punishing working people who get up 6-9am and arrive home 5-7pm, …
There are no other words for this provider except PREDATORY. They have single handedly changed what should have been an exciting and joyous first house experience into an absolute nightmare. Their current on-peak rate schedule is HORRIFIC …
Just say NO to CAROLINA CONNECT coming through your neighborhood to install fiber internet!!! The 1st crew that comes in is also known as a “wrecking ball crew”!!!!! They have destroyed our yards, broke people’s driveways by parking their …
Thanks to the Real MCEC crew workers who just came and took care of the tree subs killed 3 yrs ago that was hanging dead dangerously in my front yard for 3 days. Wish something could be done about the outdated line running thru the …
Somehow my autopay got messed up on their end. They only sent an email (that went to spam) to notify me of termination of service. A guy shows up unannounced in my backyard and threats my dogs. I have never missed a payment in over 5 years. …
Absolutely ridiculous billing. MCEC was ok before they changed over the rates. Like many others have posted its $12.00/hr for your highest peak hour during the month (peak hours are different depending on the time of year) So essentially we …
I have been calling for hours about no power AND our road is blocked with power lines down across the street. (we live on dead end road) Called Sheriff’s office and they cant make them come out.
We had been without power since 4:30 Monday morning due to the storm that came through. Austin and Philip service lineman in the Lexington area went above and beyond their job title to make sure we had power tonight, installed our new pole …
I hope this company goes under and someone else takes over. Mentioned in several other reviews, the peak hours rates are the result of pure greed and disregard for the disadvantaged. Unless you conduct your own research, you will be shocked …
Always helpful service folks. Very reliable power. The peak hour charges are high but easy to control if your house has decent insulation. R-38 or more roof insulation makes a big difference.
Peak hours are absolutely ridiculous. My light bill is $300. THREE HUNDRED DOLLARS because of peak hours. There are TWO PEOPLE in my household using power. I keep ONE lamp on during peak hours. By 5:30 I am forced to turn the air on because …

Have had great service from Mid Carolina. I am happy with my service.
I truly wish that peak rates were a bit lower.
Good luck geting your power turn back on when a storm happens they take there time..👎 …
Mid Carolina charge me $75 for 7 days they are a complete rip-off
Yea, I have realized that MCEC isn’t nowhere Different from SCE&G. They both Suck and charge fees on top of fees for no apparently reason. 😡👎 …
How can they have this peak rate charge at the time that is most used by families, there is not a lot of people that can afford that kind of hit.so families eat later, get sick more often and due to the time frames put more stress on …
I love the ability to have control of my bill by limiting my use during peak times. It keeps my bill much lower than normal.
Grew up with MCEC, always enjoyed the nice employees and good service.

The billing system is insane!!! Why are customers not allowed a net 30 pay period??? Bill shows up on 11th and is due on 30th??? …
Would never again buy a property served by MCEC. Peak hours are a scam
