Oregon Department of Revenue Reviews ( 185 )

  1. Simply the most poorly run department in the history of the universe. I would list my reasoning behind this, but I’ve had to explain it a hundred times already to everyone that I know.

  2. I’m now at 16 weeks on waiting for my return… This is ridiculous. How about we start getting interest on this money that’s “ours”……….. Had to put 1 star.

  3. Submitted my state tax return before it was due. Has been 6 months, and they just told me a MINIMUM of 3 more until I hear back from them.

  4. I’m sure the qualifications to work here are very low. You don’t have to know anything. Everytime I’ve called, I get “I don’t know” for an answer. They’re useless.

  5. Same thing for me – called on a Thursday three time 10:00, 10:30, 11:00, which their web site says they should be open, but I get a message telling me to call back when they are open. Of course it doesn’t bother to tell me when they are open.

  6. I have been waiting for a refund since mid February, and still haven’t seen it. I think I have to contact some sort of tax advocate and see if there is anything I can do. This isn’t right!

  7. Excessively long automated menu option. And I was typing in my phone number to receive a call back from a representative when it pushed me to elevator music for 15 minutes.

  8. I reached out to the department of revenue they answered quickly a lot faster than I thought. They answered every single question I needed to know Even though it was just a simple one. Thank you For answering my questions.

  9. Just spent 45 minutes trying to get a live person only to hear a recording that the office is closed…. on a Thursday… at 10:30 AM. WTF? How can a government office be closed mid week on a non holiday?

  10. Worst online system and tax prepares here are totally uneducated and contentiously mess up adjustments that they had created thmesleves. Totally got over taxed when my income was very low compared to how much they charged me almost 40 percent!

  11. THIS WHOLE THING ABOUT HAVING TO FILE THE W-2 ELECTRONICALLY IS THE MOST CRAZY SETUP EVER! THEY GIVE VERY LITTLE HELP AND YET WILL NOT GIVE YOU ANY OTHER OPTION. BUT, THEY LOVE TO FINE YOU! THEY ARE QUICK ENOUGH TO DO THAT. …

  12. Must be nice to just shut your phone off for 3 hours in the middle of every Thursday. Want to deal with a joke of a state department? This is the place to go!

  13. Worst state department of any state I have ever lived in. Website never connects even with links provided by revenue. They spend your money though don’t worry about that.Danny Rioux

  14. Horrible experiences, they told multnomah county I was not making payments when I was ahead of schedule with them, showed up at a jail repair and appliance and they just about kept me over it. Was a serious pain in the ass, they admitted fault but I had to do all of the work

  15. I have tried for 2 days to talk to a live voice. I have been through every phone tree, disconnected multiple times, and had numbers no longer in service. My tax dollars at work!

  16. They wont take calls.its bullcrap.they expect u to pay on yime but makes u wait for refund till 12 weeks or more so they can reap the benifits of the interest accunilated on the money.they are crooks

  17. Their phone help line says “I’m sorry, we’re too busy, goodbye.” And this is after tax season. It’s not right to just turn away people like that.

  18. The only way to talk to a real person is to select the option to setup a payment plan! Otherwise you are stuck in an infinite loop of phone menus. 12 weeks is their standard processing time now a days, apparently. Which is ridiculous….

  19. Can’t even begin to describe how awful this government entity is. Useless. Liars. Cheaters. Thieves. Takes a year and a half to get anything done and the employees are absolutely useless.

  20. I am a CPA, one of my client’s children went to college in Oregon and worked for 2 hours once. Oregon is now demanding a tax return for zero tax because a student earned $13. What a complete waste of time and energy. They are threatening severe monetary penalties for failure to comply with their demand.

  21. Had my questions answered thoroughly by Matias. He even called back later in the day to further explain my situation after doing more research. Unexpectedly great service and information.

  22. They have had my state refund since jan. 28th. Every time I call they have no real reason on why they have had it for so long, and with each call there is a different answer. I’m so tried of the bullshit with them. They get no stars from me.

  23. This place is absolutely trash. they hung up on me more than three times. If I personally could destroy this government service brick by brick the hold music would make me do it. I hope that they swiftly fall prey to there own insanity so a better system may rise up from the ashes.

  24. The IRS is eaiser to deal with. This is so unorganized, no one knows what anyone is doing and the red tape is all that exists it seems. I’m ashamed of my states ODR. Rude people who hate their jobs mostly.

  25. Yes we will put in a request because its been about three months. I understand there are thousands of people but dont put forth effort to the people of oregon vs the hard working seasonal employees that generate millions in reveue.

  26. They apparently lost my tax return 4 years ago and just now sent me a threatening letter about it. Imagine if any other agency/business functioned with equal inefficiency. Mind blowing.

  27. Would give 0 stars if possible… Husband and I are going to have to involve JAG because they don’t want to give us any info and are with holding our tax refund without just cause because they want us to come into the office can’t do that …

  28. I set up a payment plan with these jerks for a set amount every 2 weeks because I am on a budget, they took twice the amount that was agreed upon. Not to mention when I called them I was told that it would take 6-8 weeks for them to amend …

  29. Tried multiple times to call always try again later and trying to fill sst-1 but sight is down . You think with all the money they get from us they do better job . But if you owe them ??????????

  30. They ask for money, we send them a check. They send a refund check for “overpayment”, then, they ask for the money again. We mail a check again, they say that will satiate the balance, then we get a bill from them. WOW, Disorganized, confusing mess. Not without lots of attitude!! B.S.

  31. Called daily for the last two weeks for information about my account. I get transferred no less than 3 times and get told to leave a message, i have left a total of 15 messages and NEVER have received a return call.

  32. $450 for an NSF fee is simply stealing from persons who are trying to do the right thing and pay their taxes. I am glad I no longer live in a state that does that kind of BS. Sincerly, Joe Morretti- a person you will never receive another dime from.!..

  33. Oh my goodness, they suck! I’ve been calling and no answers! They said its in manual review for 12 weeks when I filed it earlier last month! Federal came on time but state is annoying.

  35. I’ve been disgusted with the state and the few people who will take my call. The state has held on to my federal tax refund for months! No one cares and I’ve been told to bad. What a JOKE still nothing but hanging up and the run around!

  36. This is the worst government agency I’ve ever had contact with. Their telephone menu system repeatedly funneled me to a dead end with no redirect option to connect to a live person. If I had authority, I’d fire the agency director for …

  37. Four years ago because of accounting error by my employer I ended up owing a small amount to the State of Oregon. Because I was then unemployed except for part-time temp work, I met with a DOR staffer to see if I could work out a payment …

  38. I support paying taxes as my patriotic duty. However, the OR Dept of Revenue is so bad at its job it even (somehow) makes the process of me paying them money difficult. The only thing taxing about this department is the bureaucracy that prevents its employees from actually helping people pay taxes.

  39. After about 25-30 minutes of tinkle-tonkle ‘music’ on my third attempt (due to unexpected high call volume…click), I reached someone who, after some discussion, referred me to ‘Collections’. This was about an error and the person I spoke …

  40. The state of Oregon Department of Revenue employees are genuinely hard working, caring people. The problem is that our State Legislature is completely INEPT and has NO PLAN for Revenue except gauging hard working people at an effective tax …

  45. Not entirely sure that the office itself is inhabited by biological entities. The only thing you seem to get on the phone is machines. And not the efficient kind. The kind that waste your time for the sheet sport of it. Starting to think …

  46. Chances are, if you’re calling the ODR, it’s because you owe them money. No one likes owing money to people, especially the government. However, with rare exception, if the government comes a’knocking for you to pay up, it’s because you …

  47. They lost a $700 check I mailed to them. The tracking number shows it was received but they don’t know by whom so it just went into the void and I have to spend $30 to cancel the old check and drive to them to give them a another check.

  48. You can NEVER speak with an actual person! Everything is automated. They send letters demanding money and threatening to file liens, but they will NOT respond to written appeals. Yet, they think they do a great job. This is the worst state agency ever.

  54. Everything on the website is confusing. they want me to get BIN number, then Account ID, Letter ID… but after I get all those to enter on website. It says information does not match. And no explaination of what is not matching… try …

  55. The wait time I have experienced has been minimal, the courtesy the representatives have paid me has been time and time again a highlight of my day, and the prompt system is simple and easy to use. Nobody likes to be in debt, but the folks that run this place make it a breeze to get it taken care of.

  63. After I got through their crazy phone tree, I was connected pretty quickly (around 2:30pm on a Wednesday) with a person named Yvette who was really helpful and took the time to answer my questions and explain the process to me. Overall, not the worst experience I’ve had with a gov’t agency.

  64. I paid off my debt and they still took excess money out of my account. When I called to have it refunded, they told me I would have to wait a month for a check in the mail. It took you an instant to unlawfully take it so why would it take a month to return it? Extremely poor department.

  69. By phone the representatives are either grossly incompetent or not truthful. I spoke to three of them with no satisfaction on a very small matter over more than 4 and 1/2 months. Still not resolved after they wasted a “tree or two” on paper correspondence. The rating of 1.6 is overstates their service level.
