Peace River Electric Cooperative Reviews ( 64 )

  1. They have a monopoly and do not care how they treat their customers. Rude and unprofessional service is what you get. And don’t ever be a day or two late with payment. They are unforgiving.

  2. Forced to switch from duke to them late by one day charged a late fee I was sitting in the drive when they opened it was late because of the hurricane and they still want to charge a late fee I want Duke back!!!

  3. Tried calling this morning at 8:30 am and the automated system says the office is currently closed then preceds to say the office hours are 8 am to 9 pm. So if I call at 8:30 wouldn’t you think that they are open

  4. I have to say with all the devastation from Irma here in Hardee county to have almost everyone back with service in 5 days is remarkable. Thank you for your hard work.

  5. Power outages are expected now with Peace River. It’s getting old reseting appliances and the inconveniences of no power! Get it together Peace River

  6. Everyone gives a different answer. They purposely confuse and overcharge the elderly. Will be reporting their misleading tactics to government agencies, including Elder Protection and Consumer Protection.

  7. They are so rude, and charge for an “Application” fee, along with connection, surcharge. They are horrible!! I can’t wait to have FPL back soon.

  8. They have horrible out dated equipment which causes constant black outs and unreliable power. Also their response times to black outs are terrible sometimes taking up to an hour and a half and despite having many horrible reviews on google they do not fix anything!

  9. This company is by far the worse company when it comes to maintaining power. Power goes out and effects over 200 people each time we get the smallest amount of rain. Ridiculous.

  10. Responsive. Professional. Courteous. From the office personnel to the guys in the field. Because Peace River is not a behemoth power company, I feel less like a number and more like a customer.

  11. Do not have an emergency telephone, to be able to pay in case the account is blocked, therefore, on a Friday there is no service to reinstate my account lock and on Monday I have to pay a surcharge of $ 15.00 is unfair, that ruling should be corrected ..

  12. Terrible service. They don’t maintain their service area and are slow to restore power when there is an outage. Also, they do not believe in emergencies. I have never seen a preco truck out after 5:00.

  13. If I could give no stars, it’d be even more accurate. Trying to do the right thing, I called preco to come and TRIM our Oak trees from the power lines…. I’m absolutely SICK to my stomach the butcher job they did! Now, my beautiful …

  14. Zero stars if possible, they are double FPL rates, plain and simple. Thier reasoning is outdated by about 50 years. The ‘rural’ areas they service are no longer ‘rural’, yet these scumbags are still around, charging double.

  15. Company is absolutely terrible in pricing compared to the surrounding companies… Cannot wait to move out of their service range so I don’t have to pay to a Minority 3rd party that Robs their blue collar customer. Piligaged

  16. Had FPL for years now Peace River bills are twice as high. We need to contact local politicians to get this fixed. Competition should lower prices not create a monopoly.

  17. I (we) seldom write reviews this early in our stays. But on arrival, and early into our stay we saw a Peace River we had never seen befor! (yay Marylou) (Yay Ceasar)(Yay Brittany)…….. …

  18. I have a mid sized single family residence of 1650sqft with a small in ground pool. My monthly bills through this company are $250. My advise, by a house elsewhere that is supplied with power from FPL! This issue needs to be addressed.

  19. Wish I could give these losers 0 stars! Cut my power off after my bill was only 14 days late ONCE in 10 years due to just overlooking it due to family health issues. Paid it and their $50 extortion fee to get it turned on and 2 hours later, …

  20. Worst Electric Company in the world!!!! God I miss FPL. Auto pay didn’t get processed, no email notification! Payment doesn’t get received, no notification! Power gets turned off for ONE unjustified late payment, no Notification!!! My …

  21. My house is 1726 in air, built in 2000, new roof 2015, and a block home. I turn my air up to 78 when I’m not home and down to 75 when I come home at 5:30 from work. I have no pool and just three of us in the house (gone most of the day). My …

  22. 30 plus years of dealing with this company & NEVER a problem. I dont understand what problems others are having. People usually dont get on to review a good experience so therefore only people who have had a bad experience give a review. So these reviews get skewed to the worse. I think they are the best electric company around.

  23. This is the most expensive electric service I have ever had. It is so expensive that we cant afford to run our air or heat when needed. Without using them our bill is still over $300 … THAT IS RIDICULOUS!!!!!!! If I could get another service I would most definitely do so!! Peace River Electric is AWFUL!!!

  24. The cost of electricity is considerably higher than Duke. We were forced to switched and promised a cheaper rate by preco but that is not true. As for power outages, we have had only one and it did take them over 30 mins to fix.

  25. This is the worst power company, I am convinced, in the world! We live on five acres and they were our only choice as far as electric goes. Our bill is hardly ever less than $350 per month and as of lately, mostly higher. Even when we were …

  26. Who do we have to address to end the monopoly with this company? I should not have to pay 3-500 a month for electric comparing to HALF that with other companies in surrounding areas. Not to mention, the service is poor, and often rude. I cannot tolerate this and neither can my paycheck…

  27. We have used PRECO for over 30 years. Normally several accounts running all the time in different service areas. They are not the cheapest nor the most expensive. We have experienced good service in most cases and gotten good results when …

  28. All the reviews are spot on! 1.9 rating is kinda high honestly. If you have them you know and if you’re lucky enough not to have them , DONT BUY A HOUSE IN THEIR SERVICE AREA!!!

  29. Cost of electric is high when compared to neighbors with other electric companies. I have found the preco bills when compared are often 100 to 200 dollars higher. I will actually use this experience when buying my next home, to make sure I do not buy in an area they service.

  30. I am in agreement with many of the negative reviews. The most glaring observation to be made is power outages are the norm rather than unexpected occurrences. Second, I would give a zero rating if possible. …

  31. Rates are very high, service is fair at best. We were told three months ago that they needed to replace our underground service cable, we are still waiting for this repair. The average workers are great, I suspect the management, which lives high on our dime could care less.

  32. This is the worst electric company I have ever had the displeasure of dealing with. We rent a 2 bedroom apartment, and keep the AC at 78 degrees in the middle of the summer and our electric bill is consistently upwards of $150 or more. My …

  33. Just spoke to Austin, Customer Service, about a problem and he was very helpful! His suggestions and overall understanding…OUTSTANDING! I’m not used to such awesome customer service so sending Kuddos to Austin!!!

  34. Very expensive utility rates. As of 2022 the cost of electricity here is 11 cents a kWh compared to 6-7 center a kWh in Lakeland Electric’s area where we moved from. On top of that, if you want to go solar, they do not follow State Net …

  35. We’ve had PRECO for over a total of 14 years in 2 different locations, as well as another provider in the area at a different address. We’ve had different experiences with customer service however our power service and affordability has …
