Philadelphia American Life Insurance Company Reviews ( 70 )

  1. I have had this plan for a year and a half ! I am super satisfied with it. Most of my doctors take it and if they don’t you pay cash and submit a claim. The refund is timely. It is not for super sick individuals. This plan works if you …

  2. Called and was on hold at least thirty minutes and the man who answered hung up on me, so another thirty minute plus wait to find out that what they pay isn’t worth the paper work.

  3. Great company and customer service, didn’t know who they were at first but found out most doctors take it and its the most benefit rich policy saved me almost 50% from my blue cross premiums!

  4. They work hard at not paying the bills and denying them.. Horrible insurance. I notice 3 people gave 5 stars. Probably work for them, because this insurance is the worst I have ever dealt with

  5. ABSOLUTE SCAM. DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY. FALSE PROMISES. THEY ARE NOT A “MAJOR MEDICAL” INSURANCE COMPANY. PAY A LITTLE EXTRA TO GET GOOD COVERAGE AND CUSTOMER SERVICE.

  6. I never had a n issue with this company paying out premiums and getting with me in a timely manner. The only reason i left was ,my wife ended up getting coverage for us through her job. Thank you for what y’all did

  7. Customer service is rude and I experienced. Just a nightmare. I was connected to a lady named Sandra. She didn’t one thing about insurance. Never call this place again!

  8. This company doesn’t do anything for anyone. Paying them monthly than getting billed a ridiculously amount from the hospital is completely useless, could’ve used the money I was paying them to pay off my hospital bill

  9. I had one claim in the last year. Told they would cover $125 towards a physical.I sent in the information, they came back and said I had to have the physical itemized. That’s a first. Hard to believe I pay this monthly charge and they won’t even pay $125 they claimed would be covered. Always a loophole.

  10. They reject and deny everything. They will never pay. Don’t do it, wish I would’ve known. If you do get someone on the phone they will tell you certain visits or doctors are covered and after you visit the doctor for an appointment a …

  11. My insurance agent is Larry and I’ve had a policy for almost 3 years for myself and 3 young children. Monthly policy is not expensive and they cover a lot on our doctor visits

  12. I have been offering this company for some time now as an agent. I care about my clients and this company pays exactly as they indicate. If a claim is not paid, for example maternity or pre x conditions, this is the agent’s fault for not being more honest and thorough.

  13. Negative stars for this insurance. Can’t even get a hold of any customer service agents. Then when I called as a provider they answered pretty fast. I asked if a certain thing was covered under my insurance (in which an agent told me they …

  14. As a provider in Florida, it would be helpful if the company would not sub out its payment department to VPay which defaults to credit card payment for services rendered (with fees taken out) and will not give up front information when asked about direct deposit options.

  15. Paid this company $600 a month for years, when my wife had to have emergency surgery they paid nothing! Broke it up into several procedures with separate deductibles so they would not have to any claims. We were left with over $30K in …

  16. If you have this insurance, I would advise you to never go to the ER. I owe $4500 now and the insurance covered $1000 and out $5500 total. I’m sick to my stomach.

  17. Edit!! I canceled! No actually I canceled my debit card so they couldn’t take anymore money! I got a call immediately of course. BADDDD COMPANY. STEER CLEAR!@!Brand new client and I’m ready to cancel already. Waste of my time and money. Poor customer service. Thumbs down 👎 …

  18. Health insurance company appears to be chronically understaffed. The customer service line keeps us on hold indefinitely because ” all the operators are busy at the moment.” If medical bills are paid at all, it typically takes two months …

  19. They paid exactly what they claimed they would pay. They paid the claims in less than 3 weeks. I didn’t have to have a referral to go to the specialist! Their Karis360 program helped me to negotiate a lower rate toward my portion of my bill …

  20. Absolutely the worst to deal with. My wife is very ill and Philadelphia insurance is finding every reason in the book to deny her claims. I have been jumping through hoops for 6 months trying to get updates and finally today they let me know she’s being declined because they felt she caused the illness.

  21. They have paid out more than the total of our premiums, which I was told did not dictate premium increases. We have had steady increases due to age (65-70) location; 2013/ 5.71, 20I4/2.62, 2015/7.27, 2016/2.62, 2017/9.31 and 2018/12.45. We …

  22. I couldn’t afford the government “unaffordable” care so chose this. Wasn’t optimistic but knew at least I’d have coverage if hospitalized for any reason. Had an unfortunate back fracture very soon after getting this insurance and it has paid promptly for scans office visits, etc. I highly recommend this company!

  23. Worse Insurance ever, please do yourself a favor and don’t sign up for this. It’s inexpensive because it is horrible…. If you ever have to use it. Customer service phone line is a joke 1-2 hr wait times at least. They don’t help if you really get sick or in hospital. Not even 1 star

  24. This insurance is basically worthless, don’t waste your time. After 4 emergency room visits, overnight stay in the hospital and countless testing and three ambulance rides we are looking at about $40,000 in medical expenses, that this …

  25. Disappointed in how I have been treated with this company. I got it thinking that they would take care of me as the agent, who will remain nameless “promised” the best service ever. The agent claimed this hadn’t happened and avoided a phone …

  26. Cut my insurance premiums in half and only deductible I have is overnight stay in hospital? Hell yeah! I went to my annual Dr Appointment and didn’t have to pay a dime. Walked out being told everything was taken care of. I ended up getting …

  27. Sat on the phone for an hour with a simple question regarding my coverage. The employee did not give their name and sounded completely lethargic when they answered my call. After asking my question there was a brief pause, a sigh and then …

  28. I have had my health insurance with Philadelphia American for 1 1/2 and have been very happy. Customer service has been great! When I cash pay for my naturopathic visits I submit my itemized bills and receive my reimbursement within 4-6 …

  29. I’d give 0 stars if that was an option. It literally says on the first page of the packet they send you that this will not cover the cost of most hospital and other medical services. Trust me don’t waste your time. It’s a joke. I did not …

  30. This is by far the best insurance our family has ever had. The premium is affordable and we have received more indemnity checks for services rendered. Please note, with this type of insurance, you have to do your homework and leg work. It …

  31. They are DOUBLE BILLING me. I sent four months premiums to Medicare in October paid thru Jan ’22. I just saw December 2nd they have billed ANOTHER ACCOUNT of mine for another $110. This is being investigated by our State A.G. This company …

  32. **Be forewarned** – This is not insurance that this company sells. I recently had an outpatient knee surgery and used a physician on their “approved” list and Philadelphia American paid for virtually nothing. They denied the claim and …

  33. Fraudulent company that doesn’t pay for anything. I’m paying monthly for bills aquired for two Doctor’s appointments last year.
The agent who signed me up lied to me. I don’t even know what the heck my payments are going to. Don’t waste your time or $.

  34. Unfortunately, this turned out to be a huge waste of money and time. I only got to my annual physical and blood work to start having issues filing a claim. The process is something like this: go to the Dr, get receipt, get receipt, send …

  35. This company is a total joke and a rip off. Supposedly pay for major expenses. We had major expenses and they paid pennies on the dollar. Their stock letter is “not covered.” I accept responsibility for believing that they cover major …

  36. In my opinion this is the worst insurance we’ve ever had. We paid for higher units of care. When we actually needed it, PAL doesn’t seem to want to pay the claims. We followed their requests of getting super bills, cpt codes, copies of …

  37. I’ve had Philadelphia American indemnity plan for 2 years now. It is a great alternative to traditional health insurance. If you are generally healthy this plan can work for you. The reason I rated it a four was because not all hospitals …

  38. Dental insurance through this company is fraudulent! Save your time and money and do not do business with them! They say they cover 100% of diagnostic and preventative care for in network and out network dentists with no waiting period- …

  39. One of the worst companies EVER. I don’t see how they are still in business. I was transferred to 10 different departments for a simple cancellation. They acted as if I was speaking French and left me on hold for over 30 minutes. I was …

  40. Worst company ever! It’s all fine and good when they get you to get this insurance! Went for a women’s preventative…thats it and I am almost $1500 in with bills. Misinformation from agent whom I trusted and told me It was as easy as just …

  41. I have had policy for about 2 yrs now… Regular doctors visits are just co-pay. The only down side is most doctors offices are not familiar with policy b/c it’s a newer program. I just print provider list and show the doctors office they …

  42. STAY AWAY, sales representative Jennifer Owens has no clue of what she is doing. She give false information if you can get her to even respond. Very rude if questioned. However you must call her before you go to the doctors office are any …

  43. I have had no problems with this insurance. We pay cash for most of our visits and then are reimbursed pretty fairly. It limits our total out of pocket liability. People complaining about it didn’t understand what they were buying. It does exactly what it says it does.

  44. If I could choose zero stars i would have. We submitted several claims during the life of the policy and each claim was denied for various reasons. While the premiums are cheaper than traditional insurance the benefits are basically zero. Please do not choose this insurance if you are expecting to get any health costs paid for.

  45. Most medical providers do not take this “insurance”, it is considered a limited policy, what is covered from my experience has been very minimal, after having cancer last year and other medical happenings I am left with about 50 grand worth …

  46. I would have given this NO STARS if the system would have allowed me to post this message without one. This insurance is only good if you do not need it! It works well for Doctor visits only. NO PERSCRIPTION CARD! If you need any sort of …

  47. I’m not entirely sure this is health insurance. My employer provides this as a “benefit” and luckily I don’t pay anything out of pocket for it monthly. I have never in the 2 years of having a policy successfully used the coverage. Most …

  48. This policy is for generally healthy people who can save $ on premiums. It works perfectly for me. However it didn’t work well for my husband with liver disease; he gave up on the American Healthcare system and passed. His hospitalization …

  49. This policy has provided us affordable health insurance since my husband retired. The policy comes with a $20 per day prescription benefit which is great because my prescriptions don’t even cost $20 apiece. It takes a bit more paperwork to …
