Poplar Springs Hospital Reviews ( 196 )

  1. I went here as a child the first time the males hit the females and will steal your stuff very traumatizing as a adolescent to be in there the second time wasn’t that bad it all depends on what time you go in

  2. Everything about this place is terrible from when they answer the phone to dealing with patients ! I hate this place , it seems dating campus for people with mental health issues

  3. Go Figure I begged pleaded my doctor s called several times and they turned me down everyday for a week because I’m a diabetic…bad when a mental hospital turns down a person in need especially a United States Marine and veteran of 2 wars

  4. Places is very horrible you can smoke you get cigarettes staff will give you to smoke i I don’t know why health department let them do that I never tell anyone to go states of va should look into

  5. It was horrible . Only a few staff were nice rest of them rude as hell and I was traumatized by the things I saw . No groups hardly and building was junky and ac was running in the middle of winter !

  6. This is Cabriana what I like about the hospital is you got to meet different staff and friends but what u didn’t like about the place is that you could do what you want to do but I would come back just to mess with the staff it was a fun experience and it could be boring a times

  7. This place wasn’t that bad but the kids there are immature and like starting fights some of the staff hit the kids and they don’t help you they just send you there to be watched and put on meds even if you dont need them

  8. Got treated like an inmate, I was in the girls unit and multiple girls kissed and staff did nothing, was very uncomfortable, boys were also transferred to the girls unit, food sucked I don’t think eggs are supposed to be soggy but poplar springs has soggy eggs.

  9. I was a patient it was okay like when i’m at school or doing something i get flashbacks and I broke my right thumb and it always aches when I think about the place It was a traumatic experience I was so happy to get out of boys RTC I saw so many fight restraints that putting choke hold this place needs more then Mr. Ryan’s help

  10. Finally a place where they actually care..If it wasn’t for one of the techs named Keisha I wouldn’t be on this earth anymore..I’ve been to several different places like this and this was by far the best experience I’ve had..thank you to …

  11. TERRIBLE PLACE I was a teen there and all I did was get worst I had to become a outpatient for how bad it was. There was only one good nurse and the only thing good about that place is the group.

  12. I THOUGHT THIS WAS A BEHAVIOR CENTER. TO HELP TROUBLED MINORS IT IS A PSHYCWARD FOR GROWNUPS NOT MINORS IM SO HAPPY I DID NOT SEND MY SON HERE AND NEVER WILL IF ANY ONE EVER HURT MY SON I WILL SUE THEM TO THE MAXIMUM PUNISHMENT THANK YOU ALL FOR YALL REVIEWS

  13. In my own opinion i was only there for one day and they do not care about you they will give you 3 group therapys each day and they will ask you the same questions each time and it dosnt help they dont teach you anything they joke about …

  14. the staff were mean and cruel. they used excessive force in restraint (and i wasn’t even restrained) they treated us like a military fort. don’t send your children here. instead, look at VTCC in Richmond, VA.

  15. Communication is the absolute WORST!!!!!!! Nurses are so RUDE answering the phones, couldn’t get any info on what was going on with my sister. NEVER NEVER NEVER NEVER AGAIN!!!!!!

  16. i would give zero stars but its not an option i got out last night and oml never have i been to a hospital that does literally nothing the only staff that made the stay bareable was ms.kristen mr.ricardo mr luis mr matt mr damien and mrs …

  17. I have a loved one here and by what ive heard this place is not where anyone should be placed or go to for mental help. They dont tell yo what meds your on or dont express any care for their patients. This is truly sad cause people turn to places like this for real help and cant get it.

  18. I have been here alot of times and I was treated greatly. The staff was super supportive and the doctor actually listened to me. I love the food and finally thanks to this place I am in recovery.. THANK YOU

  19. Was beaten by staff when i was a resident back in 2000 my time there still haunts me to this day and because of that I have ptsd I hope no one sends there kids or even adults there.

  20. When my daughter left Poplar Springs she was significantly worse. She was there 9 days and it was a major mistake. For a kid suffering from a traumatic experience, this only served to add more trauma to existing trauma. Do not send your kid there.

  21. They are very unprofessional. The front desk staff has no information, the way the phone privileges work is unorganized, and the doctors spend little to no time with the patients. Each time there is a call to the adult unit either no one answers or a different patient picks the phone up.

  22. The Lady at the front desk is very rude and couldn’t help me with anything. I want asking for information on anyone so that is unacceptable. If you are a receptionist you should know who to direct me to. Or at least try to be helpful instead of clueless about the place you work at.

  23. I just left a few hours ago I definitely do not recommend SOME of the staff was great the rest were rude . I did not get any help , dr.amara was a good doctor though . I got worse there I was never this depressed

  24. It’s been years but this place really wasn’t a good place. The floors were dirty and the staff was not nice at the least. Doctor’s there didn’t have much time and are medicine pusher’s. Food was ok if I remember right it was buffet style.

  25. This place is really depressing does not make you feel any better than when first brought in. Came to pick up a friend took over an hour for them to bring him out. Staff is extremely unhelpful very poorly run. Definitely understaffed needs many changes to be made. Very disappointed with facility. Would not recommend for anyone.

  26. There were multiple fights that the staff did nothing about and some of the staff treated us terribly, other than that my stay was pretty good. Mr Luis and mrs jabrea were the best and really helped me on my journey.

  27. Is isn’t person account. My name is Dustin. And in 2011 I was sent here for suicidal attempt and a temporary detention order was issued by a judge meaning you can’t leave until doctor’s approve and release you from the facility. I wanna …

  28. I’m a medically disabled combat veteran. I was sent to the ‘Military Ward’ for inpatient treatment at Poplar Springs Hospital for 2 weeks back in spring 2013 for combat-related Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD). I also have Bi-Polar …

  29. That place kept me there for 6 days under tdo. I was in the unit that was only allowed to eat with the PTSD soldiers I seen no fights but heard of them. To say the least at least they let us smoke there but it was useless

  30. Awful place bc they dont respect the patients or family members. My sister was admitted bc she threatened to kill my unborn brother and they are discharging her home again and putting the family in danger. Eventhough she has already killed two babies. All they worry about is money.

  31. The staff are very rude and are disrespectful and not properly trained and hit the kids and abuse them i was hit once by the residential manager mr stevesons it is not a nice place so try to refrain from sending your kids there

  32. These pictures must be a joke. The people here are sick, and the federal presence is disgusting. In terms of food, it’s ok, and the sleeping area is alright. They lied about what medication they were treating me with and the psychiatrist …

  33. From trying to obtain info on a patient, then being told about care of that patient BY ANOTHER PATIENT, I understand that Nursing Staff are NOT CARING OR HELPFUL OR DOING THEIR JOB!! Patient has diabetic feet and turning colors, and Staff DID NOTHING TO HELP!!

  34. Poplar Springs nurtures and treasures the spiritd thd and wills of those of us with mental illnesses and shows dignity and respect to allowing patients to find their own WAY and thus empowering our spirits. Staff is gentle, observant, …

  35. This is the best place for youth. Mrs.Jabrea and Mr.Luis are the two best staff I’ve ever met. They caused me to have a good experience here. It’s not the cleanest place ever but the staff and doctors are amazing. Ever since the doctor put …

  36. I would not recommend this for anyone’s loved one to go to. My friends son went here and he didn’t get the help he needed. Some of the staff lack people skills…including the case worker that dealt with her son. Not a good place…do your research to find a better one for your loved ones.

  37. I only give 1 star because “0” is not an option. I was “incarcerated” here some time ago and when released, I was sent to psychological rehabilitation with someone else’s records, which I have retained for obvious reasons. The “Judge” told …

  38. This place was amazing I have been through a terrible life story back to back events happen to me this place helped me with suicidal ideations & substance abuse / alcohol. Some of the staff are okay but others are bullies and controlling .. but it’s nice that we get to go out and do things on outings I do still appreciate this place

  39. If I could rate it zero stars I would. This facility is a joke. If anything, you’re leaving 10,000 times worse. In the adult acute section, you get about 45 seconds with a psychiatrist a day and you never see a therapist. The nurses are …

  40. This place is a money grab. Will keep you longer than needed to milk your insurance. At over $1,800 per day !! Good luck getting your meds straight after you initially run out. No communication between departments. Avoid at all costs.

  41. Is management of this hospital blind or deaf can they not see people crying we drove 3 hours came here waiting two hours try to get to see our son but this criminal center does not allow you to see your family member. If you hate you family member definitely this is the place for you.

  42. I don’t know why all the other reviews are so negative. I was there for a week and it was pretty cool. Missed school for a whole week and it was worth it! Only downside was that we were locked out of our bedrooms until a certain time in the evening. Also if Ricardo still works there tell him I said hi!

  43. Bad basically they don’t care about patients only about money and or insurance the staff need to learn patient relation a little bit before they are hired and also I have been lied to several times about my insurance when I really needed …

  44. A breeze.. You eat good u get snacks. They get you back on meds. If you behave your fine.If you act up 2 big Guys take you away to a secure pod so behave eat, sleep take your meds and make new friends The nurses have a tough job so make …

  45. I personally went here years ago back when I was in high school. They gave me the equivalent to an upper and downer antidepressant on the same day I was supposed to leave. I remember arguing with the nurse because I knew what would happen. …

  46. My boyfriend was there on military, unit is great by the way. Amazing staff. However the guy that picked him up was on his phone the entire time, talking and texting. He told me the guy swerved a couple of times. Even almost hitting a car …

  47. While I was there I had to deal with a lot of homophobia and transphobia, staff were rude besides Mr.Luis and Mr.Matt. They didn’t care about people’s well being and would treat us badly. One of the staff said some transphobic stuff to one …

  48. Terrible place for anyone to have the displeasure of being a patient or a loved one of a patient. The staff is lazy but disguises the laziness as HIPAA privacy laws…the patients are all worse off than when they go in. Guaranteed return to …

  49. Horrible, Ms.Charlea only cared about her favorites and when on suicide watch she physically wont look away while using the restroom which i know is a rule but like please some privacy would be nice, not only that but she triggered trauma one to many times.

  50. If I could give them zero stars I would. The staff as a whole is AWFUL and RUDE at best. No one knows what the right hand is doing and they are very unorganized. I wouldn’t entrust my child with them and I have only spoken to the secretary …

  51. I was there for a week after CCCA transferred me there in fear of them being sued for what happened last time I was at CCA . To be honest I would of rather been at CCCA . While I was at there acute program , I was overdosed with a …

  52. Please don’t consider this hospital for yourself or your loved ones. I’m usually wary when people say hospitals are only interested your insurance money but this hospital is the poster child for uncaring and money hungry. During my stay, …

  53. Most of the night staff is abusive and negligent to the patients, i received severe mental trauma from my experience there almost a year ago. Lot’s of discrimination, and the only people that actually seemed to care were a couple of the day …

  54. PLEASE DO NOT BRING YOUR CHILDREN TO THIS FACILITY!!!… my son has been hearing voices. He stayed for a week and was given a prescription for risperidone until his appointment with his psychiatrist. The attending doctor here, Siddqui, only …

  55. The pictures shown on the website are not accurate. This place looks like a crack house and smells like urine. People are beating each other up daily and getting hurt daily. This facility should not be open for business. It is beyond unsafe …

  58. Go to do what you got to do to get out of the place.. only thing I want is info on the friends I met inside the place.. is there a way I can get info on people who was discharged so I can check on them and talk to them please? Don’t want to leave a horrible review I needed the isolation but not this facility 😡 …

  59. I honestly believe this hospital should be shut down. It was much more harming to go to there for my symptoms. There was screaming, fights, and a strong disconnect between staff and patients. The medicine was suspect and there was false …

  60. They not only ignore patients and their requests for medical help, they actively bully patients and accuse them of lying and belittle their personal lifestyle choices like food preferences. I can’t believe these people actually still have medical licenses. If you care about yourself or your loved ones GO ANYWHERE BUT HERE.

  61. This place is a joke. When I would ask for help they were do not think they would just sit there because they have no way to do anything. There are so many staff there that just sit there and watch stuff happened. When I would get my …

  64. I just recently got out (4 days ago) and it was the worst time of my life. The first day I was there one kid tried to fight me twice. Another Kid was always punching holes in the wall (which are only covered up my wood planks). And when a …

  65. Just another former victim I mean patient with ptsd from tenure as a youth. Staff and patient assaults are common, there was almost no interaction with doctors. Please read the negative reviews PLEASE find another option for yourself or someone you care about.

  67. I was here in 2015 for 7 days, I think. I was under a TDO and I got there really early in the morning and they took hours to finally get me onto the adolescent unit. I saw a lot of fights. I think I counted 11 fights in the 7 days I was …

  71. Poplar Springs Hospital is a golden nugget for the state of Virginia as well as for the entire region. Leadership and front-line staff at Poplar have cemented professionalism and compassion into their overall workflow cadence. …

  72. If I could award this place 0 stars, I would. I had a short stay here a year ago and it was the worst experience I could have had. It was extremely uncomfortable in every aspect. You are locked out of your bedroom from 7am to 9pm every day …

  73. Some of the staff was nice but some treated patients as annoying people. One of the patients was seeing things and they told her to go to her room anyway . Not much supervision. And not the cleanest……the food was amazing though and the snacks were great .

  75. I spent four days there as an adult. I was sent there over 100 miles from my home because there wasn’t a closer bed. I was there for three days until the “hearing” (joke) before I even knew why I was there. “Inability to care for myself”. …

  79. This place was awful in every way. Staff was extremely rude & spent the majority of the day watching tv. No real therapy at all. I asked to be discharged within 2 days. And I left. The place was filthy and extremely outdated. I beg you never go there. Do your research & read the reviews. God awful. Can’t say that enough!!!!

  80. I stayed here a few years ago because they had the only open bed nearby. I would have had better results from talking to a wall about my feelings. The building was poorly maintained, there were not enough activities to stay entertained, and …

  81. The staff on the military unit were amazing, Tracy, Stacy, Paula, Opel, Will, they were all great. There are a few other who were great as well. The treatment however was repetitive and open ended, they took all my issues out of the box and …

  104. They are not bad. A kid I was in timeout with got his tooth busted out on the toilet from a staff restraining him around 2000. He was suspended but that is the main bad thing I can think of. They would sometimes get too rough restraining people. Solid program though other than that.
