Vermont Student Assistance Reviews ( 48 )

  1. Terrible are not honest overcharge on parent loans so not answer phone or mail requests just added two thousand dollars to my 70 year old husband ‘s parent loan and have yet to correct it

  2. Extremely difficult to get customer service on the phone once you have a loan and the website is extremely confusing. I cant beleive they make it this hard to make a simple payment or get someone on the phone

  3. Company is a joke they don’t care about any person just the money they can put in their own pockets, called looking for assistance multiple times and they basically laughed at me. DO NOT GET A LOAN FROM VSAC!!!!

  4. I tried to pay by phone and 3 different times. The phone system is terrible and I was never able to speak to a real person. This company is the worst! They do not care about their customers once the loan is signed. Horrible experience!

  5. Vsac steers college students towards private variable rate loans. These are the loans that WILL NOT qualify for loan forgiveness for anyone working in government or non profit sector. These are the worst student loans. Thank you VSAC for …

  6. Caution! A GREAT ORGANIZATION! Make sure all information is accurately demonstrated to those seeking 1st time loans/grants/scholarship’s…If anyone has a high credit score over 750. With prior loans such as, 1st brand new car purchase over …

  7. I’ve worked here for almost 14 years! Great company to work for. There is a great resource center for student/parents to visit and learn about the financial aid process.

  8. Absolutely WORTHLESS. They gave me almost no money to assist me through college, despite significant need and near perfect grades. I call to ask questions and they are so rude every single time. I was supposed to have a counselor to help me …

  9. Go through a credit union or a bank for your student loans if you can. I could tell you how frustrating it is dealing with this organization in great detail, but instead let me leave you with one fact. They do not accept repayment in cash. If you show up with physical money they will turn you away.

  10. Unless u want to be a financial slave to these people for the rest of your life I suggest u just go through a bank. The interest is off the charts and you will be paying them forever. This is the largest payment I have of all my loans yet …

  11. The service was much better ten years ago. As someone else said below they seem to be steering people away from working with them. While in one particular type of repayment I was given several automated calls every single day. Seems a bit absurd considering they knew I was paying them back

  12. I have had loans with VSAC many times and they are always very helpful. Their customer service is excellent and they have updated their website so it is much more user friendly. I would definitely recommend them.

  13. I have only had good experiences with the folks at VSAC. Every single phone conversation is friendly and helpful. The information I receive has always been accurate. The user interface on their website could be a bit smoother and robust but other than that I have only good things to say!

  14. Just as criminal as any other private student loan lender. Do not fall for their guise that they are there to help you – they are in business to make money. Expect 7% interest rates and a long, long time to pay off your student loans. It’s …

  15. Had a great experience. Got a very low interest loan (which was better than competitors/larger lenders). The customer service was great.

  16. I have paid on these loans faithfully for a decade! I had ONE late payment in December and even paid it over the phone to make up for it the following month. They reported it to the credit bureau!!! Ridiculous!!!

  17. VSAC claims to be a student assistance corporation, but they are far from it. Their policies are conducive only to their private agenda and are tough to work with. Unfortunately, I had to go through VSAC for private student loans and they …

  18. They don’t care about their customers at all and provide no notification when something isn’t right. My monthly payments are always on time even though they’re outrageously expensive. I checked my loan statement only to find out that I owed …

  19. Like others have posted, paying for life and paying 5 times the principal owed. ALL payments went to interest for many years. VSAC garnished tax returns. VSAC is pure evil and took more than they deserved. No degree is worth selling your soul to this Devil!

  20. Never go through this loan provider. They are the worst and you’ll be paying their loans for the rest of your life. Shame on VSAC. They also never pick up the phone, endless wait times, and their online systems is regularly down for maintenance/issues. Find a better option outside of Vermont.

  21. I don’t have any issues with my other 4 loan providers. VSAC is impossible to deal with. They are by far the worst. I should have never used them. I should have applied directly to the FEDs with my FASFA.

  22. When I first received a loan through VSAC they had supurb customer service and I was able to contact them during non-business hours. Now they have limited hours and the customer service is just “ok.” …

  23. Terrible service. Do not recommend for any student trying to find loans. High interest rates, awful customer service, and it is almost impossible to find other ways to pay off – they are not helpful and do not offer future ways to help you financially. Do not recommend at all.

  24. A private company which makes money off of the uniformed financial decisions of children. Seniors in high school don’t know what they are getting into and end up with High interest rate loans (mine are at 6.8%). They have not paused …

  25. Predators with chipper phone reps. When I went to college I had no idea what I was doing. So many years later I still have Vermont student assistance breathing down my neck. My generation has lived through two great recessions, a global …

  26. Another institution that engages in predatory loan practices. Just like when subprime loans were handed out left and right before the 2008 housing crash, VSAC has handed out loans to uninformed students knowing full well most will struggle …

  27. I, like many others, was talked into college while fresh out of high school. At that age I didn’t know what it meant to save up $1000, let alone what it meant to saddle yourself with the kind of unethical loans this company offers. 10 years …

  28. If I could give a 0 I would. I’ve made consistent (OUTRAGEOUS) payments to them for over a decade, and there is ‘nothing they can do for me’ when I asked for help. They absolutely care only about themselves (shouldn’t be shocking since it …

  29. Vsac is a scam. No loan forgiveness for PSLF, no income based repayment options, no deferring, no humanity. Most of these options they advertise to help borrowers only apply to a small type of their loans and not to a single one of mine. Great way for them force Vermonters into poverty instead of helping them.

  30. After dealing with this loan lumming over my head for 14 years just trying to wait out true debt cancelation I find out this isn’t a direct federal loan but a family of (something I didn’t even know was a thing as an 18 year old signing on …

  31. If I could leave a zero I would. VSAC is a predatory lender. It preys on young high school students and tricks them into these ridiculous private student loans. I graduated high school back in 2003 and immediately went to a trade school. I …
